Can Tho University
located in the heart of the bustling Mekong Delta, is seeking two ESL teachers for the academic year 2012-2013.  At this university – one of Vietnam’s best -- you’ll teach classes in speaking and listening, as well as in American culture and society.  Students here are at a fairly advanced level, so that you will be able to introduce engaging topics for discussion and written assignments.  You may also help faculty in the College of Education polish their English language skills and assist students in writing their senior theses.  You’ll spend between 16 and 18 hours in class each week. Classes have between 15 and 24 students.

Outside of class, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get involved in student activities, such as playing soccer and basketball, taking part in a university-wide talent show, learning from your students how to cook Vietnamese food, and going on a spring camping trip.  Students often invite their foreign teachers to visit their homes for weddings, birthdays, and other celebrations.

Salary for this position (including bonuses) is approximately $115 per month -- more than adequate to live on. (For example, eating in local restaurants costs only about $2 a day.) “Teachers for Vietnam” provides transportation to and from Vietnam, as well as health insurance. In addition to a modest salary, the university will provide you with a room in a campus guesthouse and a bicycle.  During Tet, in January, you’ll have a month’s vacation.  If you want to learn Vietnamese, you can sign up for a two-month course at the university. Currently there are several teachers from the U.S. and other countries on staff.
